Amazon didn’t start with this sort of affiliate program, but its program has become the most widely accepted method and has served as a model for subsequent programs.
Third-party publishers - referred to as affiliates - gain a small fee, incentivizing them to find ways to promote the company selling the commodities. With this understanding, it becomes a pay-for-performance marketing program where the act of selling is outsourced across a massive network.
